ChatGPT and other clients

Any MCP client that speaks remote MCP.

K2Shell implements the standard: Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 with dynamic registration, or a bearer API key. Clients that support remote MCP servers, such as ChatGPT custom MCP servers, can use it the same way as Claude.

What you get

Standard MCP

No vendor lock-in: the same 17 tools for every client.

OAuth or key

Use OAuth where the client supports it, or an API key in a header.

Same rules

Policies, scope, logging and live watching apply to every client.

How to set it up

1

Enroll a server

Add a Keyless SSH host in K2Shell and complete the server-side enrollment. A saved password host alone does not give agents access.

2

Add K2Shell in ChatGPT

Where your account and workspace permit custom MCP servers, open ChatGPT Plugins, choose Add custom MCP server and enter your K2Shell /mcp URL. Use OAuth to sign in and choose the permitted servers and policy.

3

Start a conversation

Enable the connection, ask which servers are available, then request a diagnostic task. Review tool actions according to your client settings.

Questions

What are the requirements?

A compatible remote MCP client, permission to add a custom server, and an enrolled server reachable over SSH from K2Shell. Account and workspace restrictions apply. This project provides protocol compatibility and setup guidance; a current end-to-end test in each client is still needed.

Where can I check ChatGPT setup?

See the official OpenAI custom MCP server guide linked below for current account and workspace requirements.
